Sciatica is a condition that we see, sadly, all too often at Shine Chiropractic Neurology. My experience in treating this condition has enabled our office of help hundreds of patients end their struggles with this crippling condition. There are several causes of sciatic neuralgia. The most obvious condition is a herniated disc in the lumbar spine. Treating disc herniations can take up to 15 treatments but some can be symptom free in only a few visits. Remember that you must do some form of lumbar decompression (i.e. traction) in hopes to encourage the herniation back into the disc.

Another way a patient can get sciatica is from soft tissue that becomes inflamed and spastic. Several regions can be a culprit….first is the piriformis muscle, second is the gluteus medius, and third is the lumbar erectore spinae attaching into the iliac crest. Coldlaser therapy and soft tissue releases are paramount for this problem.

Sacroilitis also causes sciatica due to the fact the sciatic nerve traverse over that joint and when there is dysfunction and inflammation in the large SI joint pain down the leg can be seen.
